How to buy and help a society?

Lately, I've thought about how to buy everything and help society at the same time. Even consumer products and services in my routine. A couple years ago, global warming and climate change are the mainstream for everyone to think about how to stop it. Thanks for Al Gore to set this agenda in a book and movie “An Inconvenient Truth” (Even though some people criticizes that it's for reputation or politics). Just the same in Thailand or many countries for a while the bag “I'm not a Plastic Bag” sell well. I can saw these bags around the city. I'm not sure that they used it for the earth or just trendy. At least it's good for the environment. If many people joins this campaign, it's worth to do something like this.

If you want to do something good but it's just alternative and you want to make it be a mainstream. Feel hard because you must be patience. You want to know how hard it is. Just think about the movie “Evan Almighty” that Evan tried to make Ark and told everyone that something bad would happen. Prepared to ran away from the upcoming disaster. Who would believe this? Even his family would take time to believed him. It's not strange to disbelieved because the things Evan did and told look not cool and hip. Crazy! How the flood would happen, earth? If Evan were the Presidents of United States, I think it's not easy to motivate everyone to believe. You just not jump on the train.

If something go against the trend is hard, it's not impossible. Sometime it's long to prove your will and belief. I think no one say “hey, wait for my death and give me praise on the tomb.”.  Even you can have an impact but it's better to be witness of our success. However success before or after death, it's still success.
For some reasons, I give you a long introduction. The thing is you want to make something good but not a mainstream one; try harder.

I have some advice for everyone to buy something on your routine

1. Inspect the seller. Um, who want to buy a stealing product? I don't think you do! But if buy from a repented thief, feel it alright. If the thief come with a tailor made suit, it's hard to know that this guy is a thief. If you know it, you won't buy it for sure. You must be like a detective to inspect that thief and know who him really is.


2. Inspect the producer. Sometime the buyer is the same person with the producer but sometime it's not. If it's not, it's more complicate. How you know that the thing you is Fairtrade, likes doesn't have a factory in Cambodia and give a lower paid from it could be. Or overtime but not pay and use some children labors. In Thailand we call this Hell Factory. If that's bad like this, I'm the one who won't buy from this producer.


3. Fair price. The truth is the luxury or best designed goods is worth to have it and it looks great. If you buy something that may have some functions but you have it to just make you look great, if it's OK? Buy something that's useful and decrease the unnecessary things. If you cut the margin of luxury, be economical, you can have some money to help the others or you neighborhood. How good is that for the society?

That's it, just 3 for now! I'll figure it out later. But even just 3, it's hard to do it. I will give some details about this 3 later.

ซื้อสินค้าแล้วช่วยสังคมด้วย ทำยังไงนะ

ในช่วงหลังๆ ผมค่อนข้างขบคิดกับเรื่องนี้พอสมควรว่า ทำยังไงเราจะใช้สินค้าทั้งอุปโภคและบริโภค รวมถึงบริการในชีวิตประจำวันให้เกิดผลดีต่อสังคม ขณะที่ 2-3 ปีหลังนี้กระแสโลกร้อนมาแรงมาก เหมือนคนจะสนใจมากขึ้นว่าทำยังไง เราจะไม่ทำให้โลกร้อนกันมากขึ้น ต้องขอบคุณอัล กอร์อยู่เหมือนกัน ที่ช่วยปลุกกระแสนี้ขึ้นมาจากหนังและหนังสือที่ชื่อ “An Inconvenient Truth” (แม้ว่าจะมีเสียงค่อนขอดอยู่บ้างว่าทำเพื่อชื่อเสียงหรือการเมืองหรือป่าว) อย่างไรก็ตาม ในเมืองไทยหรืออาจจะหลายประเทศ มีช่วงหนึ่งถุงผ้า “I'm not a Plastic Bag” ขายดีมาก ใช้กันทั้งบ้านเมือง ไม่ว่าจะใช้ด้วยจิตสำนึกรักโลก หรือตามกระแสก็ตาม มันก็ส่งผลดีต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม การที่มีกระแสในเรื่องที่ดี และมีคนไปร่วมเยอะๆ ก็น่าจะเป็นประโยชน์ไม่มากก็น้อย

ถ้าเราอยากทำสิ่งดีๆ ที่มันไม่เป็นกระแสให้กลายเป็นกระแสขึ้นมาล่ะ ยากเหมือนกันนะ เพราะต้องใช้ความอดทนสูง อยากรู้ไหมว่ากระแสสังคมที่คิดไม่ตรงกับเรามันแรงแค่ไหน ให้ลองนึกถึงหนังเรื่อง Evan Almighty ที่พระเอกของเรา (อีวาน) พยายามสร้างเรือขนาดยักษ์ แถมไปบอกคนรอบข้างว่า มันจะเกิดสิ่งไม่ดีเกิดขึ้นนะ ให้มาเตรียมตัวหนีภัยพิบัติกันเถอะ พูดไปก็ไม่มีใครเชื่อ ขนาดครอบครัวเขาว่าจะเชื่อได้ก็ยังไม่ง่ายเลย มันไม่แปลกเลยที่จะไม่มีใครเชื่อ เพราะสิ่งที่อีวานทำมันไม่เท่ ไม่ฮิพ แม่งบ้า อะไรมันจะมาทำเกิดน้ำท่วมโลกได้ ต่อให้อีวานเป็นประธานาธิบดีของสหรัฐ ก็ไม่แน่ว่าจะจูงใจคนให้มาเชื่อได้ไหม คือมันยากมากที่จะสวนกระแสโลก
ถึงแม้การพยายามทำสิ่งที่ดีแต่สวนกระแสโลกมันยากมาก แต่ก็ไม่ใช่ว่าเป็นไปไม่ได้ซะทีเดียว บางครั้งมันต้องใช้เวลายาวนานที่จะพิสูจน์ความตั้งใจ ความเชื่อของเรา ผมว่าคงไม่มีใครอยากเป็นแบบว่า รอให้ตายก่อนแล้วค่อยมายกย่อง ค่อยมาเห็นคุณค่าในสิ่งที่เราทำ เพราะแม้ว่าจะเกิดผล แต่การทำสิ่งดีๆ ให้เกิดขึ้น แล้วเรามีโอกาสได้เห็นผลของการกระทำด้วย มันก็น่าชื่นใจไม่น้อย แต่อย่างไรก็ตาม สำเร็จก่อนตายหรือหลังตาย ก็ถือว่าสำเร็จละกัน

รู้สึกจะยกแม่น้ำทั้งห้าสิบสายมาเยอะไปหน่อย จริงๆ แค่จะบอกว่า อยากทำสิ่งดี แต่สวนกระแสโลก มันต้องใช้ความพยายามมานั่นเอง

แล้วจริงๆ เราจะบริโภคสินค้าบริการอย่างไรดีล่ะ มาดูแนะนำสั้นๆ ที่ทำไม่ง่ายกันหน่อย

1. สำรวจคนขาย เออ มีใครชอบซื้อของโจรบ้างครับ ผมว่าคงไม่มีหรอก แล้วถ้าโจรกลับใจล่ะ ก็พอไหวนะ แต่ถ้าเป็นโจรในมาดผู้ดีล่ะ ถ้ารู้ก็คงไม่อยาก แต่มันดูยากนะ ต้องสืบเสาะหาข้อมูลกันเยอะเลย กว่าจะรู้ว่าคนขายไม่ใช่โจร แต่เป็นคนดีๆ นี่เอง


2. สำรวจผู้ผลิต คือบางคนผู้ผลิตกับคนขายก็เป็นคนเดียวกัน แต่บางทีก็ไม่ใช่ ถ้าไม่ใช่ อันนี้ยุ่งเหมือนกันนะ ถ้าจะซื้อเสื้อสักตัว เราจะรู้ไหมว่าเป็นสินค้า Fairtrade ไม่ใช่แบบว่าไปเปิดโรงงานในกัมพูชา แล้วกดค่าแรง ใช้แรงงานเกินเวลา ใช้แรงงานเด็ก โรงงานนรกว่างั้นเถอะ คือถ้าดูเลวกันขนาดนี้ ผมคนหนึ่งละที่ไม่ซื้อแน่ๆ


3. คุ้มราคาไหม จริงอยู่การได้ใช้ของแพง ดีไซน์เลิศ มันมีคุณค่าทางจิตใจ แต่ถ้าซื้อสินค้าที่มันต้องใช้งาน กลับเอามาใช้เป็นเครื่องประดับบารมี คงไม่เวิร์ค ซื้ออะไรก็ให้มันใช้ประโยชน์ได้จริงจัง อันไหนไม่จำเป็นก็ลดลงหน่อย คือ ถ้าตัดส่วนเกินของความฟุ่มเฟือยของไปได้ เราก็ประหยัดไปได้ด้วย แถมอาจจะมีเงินเหลือไปช่วยเหลือคนรอบข้างที่ด้อยโอกาสอีกด้วย แบบนี้สังคมเราจะไม่ดีขึ้นได้อย่างไร

เออ 3 ข้อเองหรอ น้อยเนาะ คิดไม่ออกล่ะ แต่อยากบอกว่า 3 ข้อนี้หินจริงๆ ทำยากมาก ไว้วันหลังจะมาขยายความต่อนะครับ แต่ถ้าใครมีคำแนะนำดีๆ เพิ่มเติมก็แนะนำได้ครับ
